Karen was born to Bishop Corneal and Pastor Joyce A. Harper as the seasons transitioned from summer to fall.
Her parents joined Bethesda Gospel Tabernacle under the pastorate of Pastor Thomas O. Wilson. She was saved and encouraged to serve God at the age of 13. She served in almost every capacity at the church including junior usher, Sunday School teacher, assisting in youth ministry ultimately functioning in a variety of capacities in the music department.
Music ministry was not her choice in early days. Karen never sang as a child, but was selected to be the Assistant Director of the Youth Choir. God had a plan. The directress of the choir broke her ankle the night before a major youth event at the church. Karen was informed that as the Assistant Youth Directress, she was expected to “step up” and direct the choir. Weeping ensued, an attempt at getting the youth leader to change her mind, but to no avail. God helped her (shaking in her shoes). She did it! And the rest is musical history……….
As a high school student she made melody with the Lindblom Technical High School Gospel Choir, under the direction of now Pastor Lamont Lenox. This relationship catapulted her into a love affair with music that continues. It facilitated her understanding of her musical gifts and her responsibility to develop and manage them as gifts from God. She has trained choirs and praise teams, and facilitated various music workshops. She has had the opportunity to travel and sing across the country. Her love for music grew but so did her love for God’s Word.
As a young woman she traveled extensively with Pastor Joyce Harper, her mom, as she ministered at events hosted by women for women that included, retreats, Annual Women’s Day services and workshops. Her mom’s ministry had an undeniable impact upon her life as she was exposed to other phenomenal women. She developed a servant’s heart.
She has served faithfully alongside her husband, Pastor Elect Ronald Daughtery for over forty years. Their paths crossed as teens and their hearts intertwined in preparation for plans born in the heart of God. On July,19 the “two became one” and their lives were enriched as the adventure began. The family grew. Denae, Rhonda and Brandy , their daughters, enhanced the journey and became an awesome blend of harmonious melodies and together they became five smooth stones.
God led the Daugherty Family to join Bethel Temple Church, Fort Worth, Texas, Pastor Robert & Lady Cynthia Lawson in the fall of 1992. Lady Lawson, the first cousin of Elder Ronald, remains a blessing in their lives. What a blessing being a part of this family was! This loving congregation embraced the Daugherty clan, imparted God’s love and learning in a way that had not been experienced before. It was there that she was licensed and ordained as a minister.
In 2013, the young sweethearts, returned to Chicago, embarking on yet another leg of their life’s journey as they joined the ministry team at New Beginnings Full Gospel Church. While they often returned to Chicago for special events and supported the work at a distance they could now give full support to a work and people they loved.
The family continues to grow. Fred, Brian and Joel, have married their daughters. Grandchildren, Brian, Joy, and have enlarged their hearts and given them great joy
The Journey Continues and another chapter begins as they say another yes to the God of their salvation. .
